Initially you will have a consultation with a Surgeon to discuss your particular case and so that they can get a better idea of why you want to have breast uplift surgery. During the consultation, they will also outline the process and the procedure for breast uplift surgery, although we have also outlined some of this information below.
Like many types of breast surgery, breast uplift surgery requires that you stop smoking and you stop taking the pill. This is required to minimise the risks involved when having a General anaesthetic – whilst stopping smoking is a requirement to aid the healing of scars. You surgeon will advise you on whether you should consider losing weight as sometimes this can enhance the results as well as minimising the risks of post surgery complications . Once you’re out of the surgery you will need to be wearing a sports bra for support so you should ensure you take one of these with you to the hospital when you arrive. The size and shape of your breasts will be different following the breast uplift surgery, so you will need to discuss this with your surgeon in the early parts of the consultation so you know what size bra to bring with you.
Arriving for your Breast Uplift Surgery - The day itself
You will arrive at the clinic with your new bra to meet with the Surgeon who will come and visit you in your room to welcome you to the surgery. This is an opportunity for you to discuss any last concerns or questions you may have with him. You are also required to give your final consent to the operation, which means that you are aware of all the risks involved and are happy to go ahead with the uplift surgery. Your breasts will be marked at this stage so that the surgeon knows where to remove skin and also how much.
It is normal for people to feel some pain and discomfort following an operation of this sort. This can be controlled with medication prescribed by your surgeon.
Once you are out of the operating theatre, you will be taken back to your room. You will be wearing the sports bra which you brought with you to the hospital, and there will be dressing and drainage tubes on your breasts (drainage tubes will be removed before you leave the hospital – one or two days later)
After the breast uplift surgery – Getting home
It is recommended that you book up to two weeks off work – depending on your occupation. It is advised that you keep wearing the sports bra for 24 hours a day following breast surgery – but your Surgeon will advise you as to how many days you will need to keep wearing this for.
People can find the first few days and weeks quite difficult following breast surgery. It is common for people to arrange some help with their day-to-day activities such as shopping, due to the discomfort that they feel, and also because they feel tired following the operation. Try to make sure you have some support through this difficult time.
It is recommended that the wounds stay as dry as possible throughout the early days following the breast surgery – as this will aid healing. You’ll have to return to the clinic approximately 7 days later to have everything checked out, and probably have your dressings removed or changed and if needed, any stitches taken out. You should make sure that you do not miss your follow-up appointment, as these are important to ensure your recovery is going as planned. They also give you one more opportunity to ask any questions that you might have regarding your surgery and the healing progress.
