Breast Enlargement Surgery

There are a few things you will have to do to prepare for your surgery. Firstly, you will need to buy a sports bra to take with you when you go to the hospital, as you’ll need to wear this following the operation. Obviously, you will need to buy this in the size which was agreed between yourself and the surgeon at the time of the consultation.

It is not uncommon for more mature women to have a mammogram prior to the operation – this is normal procedure. Also – if you are planning to lose weight following your surgery, it is recommended that you actually look to do this before the surgery – as you will enjoy a longer lasting effect form the breast enlargement. If you are planning to have children in the near future, as having children can have effects on your breasts, you may also want to consider leaving the breast enlargement operation until you have had children (this is because of the fluctuations seen in the size of the breasts throughout the pregnancy)

Your surgeon may also wish to discuss any smoking habits you may have, or if you are taking aspirin or other medication. Depending on what your situation is with any of these, your Surgeon will advise you on when you have to stop and/or resume these activities. Some surgeons will want to take photos of your breasts prior to the operation so that comparisons can be made following the breast enlargement.

The day of your Breast Enlargement surgery

You should expect a visit from the Surgeon as he will need to get a final consent from you and you will also have the opportunity to ask him any last minurte questions you might have – or voice any concerns.

You may be in some pain when you wake up, but you will be offered pain relief should you require it. You will wake up in the sports bra which you brought with you to the surgery and you will also have dressings around the stitches. You may find that you have some drainage tubes in your breasts which will be there to collect any leakage of blood. If these were required, they will be removed before you go home. It might be required that you stay in the hospital for one more night before heading home following the operation.

Given that it is not unlikely that you will be feeling some discomfort following the operation, you may get some antibiotics and/or painkillers to take home with you. It will be important that you rest when you get home as this will help you recover as fast as possible.

If you have children, you should consider getting someone to help you with daily chores and tasks for about a week, as you should be resting. It is recommended that you do not return to work for up to 2 weeks, although this may be shorter depending on the type of work you do. For example, people who are involved in clerical work may be ready to return to work after just one week.

You’ll need to have a friend or a partner who is able to drive you home following the operation.

After your breast enlargement surgery

You shouldn’t have a bath or shower until you’ve been back to the clinic for the first check-up of your wounds. This will be between one and two weeks from the time you get home. This requirement is important in order to allow the wounds to heal as quickly as possible. When sleeping, you will need to lie on your back for the first few weeks. To ensure that things are going well with regards to your recovery – make sure you keep to your appointments with the surgeon. It is recommended that you keep wearing your sports bra for a couple of weeks following the operation – but your surgeon will let you know when you can consider wearing an underwire bra again.
