Tummy Tuck Surgery

Before your Tummy Tuck

Your surgeon will give you specific instructions prior to surgery. You are encouraged to lose some weight prior to the operation to enable effective results. However, it is not recommended that you adopt a rapid weight loss programme as this may inhibit your ability to heal.

It is advised that you have completed your family as pregnancy is not encouraged after the operation.

Your surgeon will discuss issues surrounding smoking, drinking, medications or vitamins at you consultation. You may be advised to avoid or resume these activities .

The day of your Tummy Tuck

Your surgeon will examine and answer any question you have about surgery. You will then be requested to sign a consent form to show that you understand the procedures and have given your consent to for the cosmetic surgery to go ahead.

After you come around after the general anaesthetic, you will find drainage tubes in place and a support corset may be applied. You will experience some discomfort, but medication will be available to control the pain.

Your surgeon will assess your recovery and you will be discharged from the clinic 28-48 hours after your cosmetic surgery.

Going home after your Tummy Tuck

You will feel weak after surgery, so it is advised that you prepare a relaxing home environment for recovery. You must not place any strain on the lower abdomen for up to a week after cosmetic surgery, you can avoid putting pressure by supporting the area with your hands when you sneeze, laugh or cough. Constipation can be avoided by keeping hydrated and eating lots of fibre.

Your dressings and corset need to remain dry and clean until you attend your first visit to the clinic. Your surgeon will discuss dates for these visits after cosmetic surgery.

It is likely that you will be fit to return to work 2 weeks after cosmetic surgery, however, activity must be kept to a minimum and strenuous exercise must be avoided weeks.
