Liposuction Surgery

Before your liposuction

Your surgeon will give you specific instructions prior to liposuction surgery. You are encouraged to lose some weight prior to the liposuction operation to enable effective results. However, it is not recommended that you adopt a rapid weight loss programme as this may inhibit your ability to heal.

Your surgeon will discuss issues surrounding smoking, drinking, medications or vitamins at you consultation. You may be advised to avoid or resume these activities

The day of your liposuction

The surgeon will visit your room on the day of liposuction operation to examine and draw marks on the areas which are to be treated in liposuction surgery. You will then be requested to sign a consent form to show that you understand the procedures and have given your consent to for the liposuction surgery to go ahead.

When you come around after liposuction surgery, you will find a support garment has been fitted. It is usual that your wounds will be weep, nurses will change and dress these until the weeping stops. You may experience some discomfort but this can be controlled with painkillers. Antibiotics may also be given to fight any infection.

Going home after your liposuction

You will feel quiet week after liposuction surgery and you must rest for 2 days following surgery. If you have had multiple areas treated, you will suffer discomfort, but again this can be controlled with painkillers. You will be expected to wear the elasticated garment and bandages for two to three weeks depending on your surgeon’s advice. Baths and showers should be avoided in this time to ensure that the treated area is kept dry and covered – strip washes are recommended to maintain general hygiene.

Strenuous exercise should be avoided for up to a month after liposuction, but gentle exercise is encouraged.
