Ear Correction

Otoplasty explained

The medical term for ear reshaping is Otoplasty, and the process itself involves removing skin from the ear, and reshaping the soft bone (cartilage) from behind the ear.

The process is also known as Corrective Ear Surgery, and has solved the issue of ‘protruding’ ears for many people (protruding ears is where ears are over sized, or simply very prominent.

Once the cartilage has been reshaped, the ears are then stitched into a new position. The natural creases in the ear are used to hide any incision marks which result from the operation. Unlike many other forms of plastic surgery, corrective ear reshaping surgery is performed under Local Anaesthetic with sedation. It is normal for people who have undergone surgery for ear reshaping to wear bandages for approximately 1 – 2 weeks. After the bandages have been removed from the ears, the stitches (if applicable) can be removed.
