Before your Facelift
Your surgeon will give you specific instructions prior to surgery. You may be are encouraged to lose some weight prior to the operation to enable effective results. If you smoke, you should look to abstain as this will hinder the healing of the wounds. Colouring your hair before cosmetic surgery is recommended as you may not be able to apply colour for several weeks after surgery. It is good to have sunglasses and a scarf ready for discharge from the clinic as these will disguise the bruising.
Your surgeon will discuss issues surrounding smoking, drinking, medications or vitamins at you consultation. You may be advised to avoid or resume these activities
The day of your Facelift
The surgeon will visit your room on the day of cosmetic surgery to examine and draw marks on your face in preparation for surgery. You will then be requested to sign a consent form to show that you understand the procedures and have given your consent to for the cosmetic surgery to go ahead.
When you come around from your general anaesthetic, you will have dressings on the face and possibly drainage tubes in place. The cosmetic surgery is not regarded as a painful procedure but you may suffer an uncomfortable tightness, medication will be offered to control the pain. Typically you will remain in the clinic for up to 2 days after surgery, drainage tubes will be removed before you are discharged
Going home after your Facelift
You should try to keep your head elevated and movement should be kept to a minimum in the days following cosmetic surgery. Your surgeon will advise you on how best to care for your wounds, including appropriate timing for hair washing, applying make up etc. You must follow the instructions to ensure effective removal of stitches and healing.
Appointments will be arranged by your surgeon to treat your wounds post cosmetic surgery, it is to compulsory attend these for successful healing. Approximately 2-3 weeks after surgery, your stitches will be removed, the bruising and swelling will have gone down and you can return to work.
